The Société de transport de Laval (STL) intends to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 10% per kilometre by 2018, compared to 2012. This bold vision and committed action earned the STL the Enviro-access programme’s Carbon CareTM certification, which confirms the organisation’s profound consciousness of the problems posed by climate change and represents its proactive approach to greenhouse gas emissions management.
The STL’s targeted approach to its objectives includes:
- The acquisition of 89 hybrid buses;
- The acquisition of the first ever 100% electric 40-foot bus to be introduced to the network;
- Training of drivers in eco-driving in order to reduce fuel consumption;
- Setting up the CycloBus programme to encourage Lavallers to combine the use of bicycles and buses.
“Contributing to the protection of the environment is at the very heart of our values and our everyday actions. We set an ambitious objective and this certification bears witness to our commitment and efforts to get there,” asserted STL Board President David De Cotis and added that “as part of Ville de Laval’s Sustainable Mobility Plan, this initiative is marked by a common desire to reduce greenhouse gas generated by Lavaller travel, by 50% by 2031.”
