STL’s 2012 budget – A Budget Geared Toward Sustainable Mobility Plan

2012-12-01 – Yesterday, Ville de Laval adopted the 2012 budget of the Société de transport de Laval. Entirely developed in line with the Sustainable Mobility Plan, the budget indicates the STL’s plans to embark on concrete actions to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) starting in 2012.

This $118.5-million budget will make it possible to face the expected rise in ridership in 2012. Service is therefore increasing 3.8%. Since the opening of the three metro stations in Laval, the STL’s service will have therefore increased by nearly 35%. Moreover, although the price of a monthly pass will be up 3.2% starting January 1, 2012, the STL is maintaining the $1 fare for its “Smog Alert” incentive program.

Feasibility study AERIAL TRAMWAY IN LAVAL!

2011-11-22 – The Société de transport de Laval (STL) announced its intention, today, to carry out a feasibility study to determine whether it would be appropriate to put an aerial tramway into service on its territory. Ville de Laval, Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) and Hydro-Québec all support this decision.

A number of major cities in the world—New York, Portland, Lisbon, Singapore, Medellín and Rio de Janeiro and soon London, as well, to name a few—are already successfully operating cable car transportation systems.

Powered by electricity, an aerial tramway ranks among the technologies to which these metropolises are resorting, as aerial trams have proven to be an advantageous urban transit solution.

For the first time in our history and after a number of years of efforts to reach this objective, we have recorded an annual on-time performance rate of over 90%!!! Or 91.7%, to be precise. An all-time, record-breaking first at the STL!

On a monthly basis, the on-time performance rate surpassed 90%, seven times out of 12. Such outstanding results are directly due to the roll-out of the Vehicle Scheduling Control System (VSCS) launched in 2008.

Integrated into the buses’ cockpit, the VSCS provides the Control Centre with a lot of information, including the exact position of each GPS-equipped vehicle. Since April 2009, the drivers have also had access to this information in real time. At a mere glance at their console, they therefore know whether or not they are on time and, insofar as possible, they then adjust their speed accordingly.
